The Complete Weaving Kit

I bought this thinking that it would be a nice introduction into weaving since I had no idea where to start. Assembling the loom was straight forward and easy, even waxing it was fine. But because the yarn has all those little tabs in it, it catches on everything and knots itself so quickly! Just trying to warp the loom took me 2 hours because I had to keep untangling knots. The kit also doesn't include "scrap yarn" to put at the beginning of your weaving. They just expect you to have your own yarn, even though the kit says it has "everything you need to get started"... Once I eventually got the loom warped and ready, I quickly realized there were design flaws with the loom itself. The reed hits the front edges of the loom when you're trying to beat it, so you can't get an even line on the first few rows. The yarn is constantly wrapping around the pawl stopper on the cog when you're shifting the shuttle back and forth through the weaving. And when you have the loom resting on your lap against the edge of the table (like the instructions tell you to), the reed does not stay in the proper positions, especially in the lower position. It kept sliding forward out of the holder as I was trying to slide the shuttle through. I ended up having to manually hold it in place while also sliding the shuttle through. This loom was so infuriating that I only could weave about 8 inches before I was ready to throw it out the window. I used the booklets and the Ashford youtube videos to try and make sure I did everything correct and still it was awful. Get better yarn for this kit, fix the design flaws on the loom, and make it more beginner friendly! This was such a waste of money. I feel like I got scammed.

Wonderful kit for this weaving newbie! I was able to assemble the loom, set up the warp and weave the project scarf by reading instructions and watching videos. It turned out beautifully-just need to be careful to avoid snagging yarn on jewelry. Now I am ready to tackle other weaving projects and wow my family and friends 😄
