Your top leg is the problem, and you've never once felt it happen.
Sleep on your side and that leg slides forward, dragging your hips out of line. All night. Every night. You don't notice it at 2 a.m. You notice it when you stand up in the morning.
This sits between your knees and keeps them stacked, so your hips stay where they belong. C

I had a knee replacement a year ago and also have lower back problems. I can sleep comfortably on my side with the pillow supporting my thigh which consequently keeps my hips aligned. I can wear it on either leg as it rotates with that comfortable wide band depending upon what side I am on.
