Good tea - but why add licorice root?

Overall a nice tea, good quality, sustainable and transparent company. But why mixing licorice root in? Wouldn't it be just a nice, clean flavor with the mint/sage combination? I guess they think that people need some sweet taste to it... well, leave it to the customer to add that.
