'Reckoning' | Paperback Edition

Hi Foster I haven’t read through it yet but so far I’m enjoying it immensely. Not too often do I read a author that can make it feel that you can see and imagine that you are there right in the pages, brilliant work and if the next one is as good I certainly will buy again thank you

I bought the ‘Hollows’ and from the first chapter I felt at one in the space the story was set. A chapter or two on, they rode into ‘Murwillumbah’ (My home town). I lived in the story and the drama. I will read it again. I have the ‘Reckoning’ and have begun reading, it is shaping up to be equally as enthralling. I know they are fiction but they carry me off to a place of reality, the story feel like stories I have had relayed from my Husband’s family, Pioneers of the Tweed Valley. Thank you Foster Burton. Fabulous gripping story telling. I feel the roller coaster emotions in the story. Love love your books.

A good fun follow up to the original book The Hollows. Anyone who loves Australian historical fiction set around the colonial/gold rush days will enjoy both books. I would have liked to have seen his brother be part of this story as that would have made a good pay off from the first book. I felt the story strayed a little at times and some of the characters were a bit cliched and one dimensional. But it still had me engaged enough to keep turning the pages. I got the feeling that this book was a little rushed to get it out as a sequel after the success of The Hollows, and it could have benefited from more early drafting and structural work. However, Foster has a natural gift of creating a detailed world for his characters and that only comes from good research. Overall, I would recommend it to those who enjoy a good historical drama. It's an easy read and has enough in it to keep you engaged.
