Pentode Mk2 Colour Module

Just amazing. A+++

I’m using these in a pair of Chromas to warm up my drum bus. I had the implode in them and really liked them, but the Pentode 2 is AMAZING, THICK, and HUGE. It’s insane that you can get this much mojo out of a tiny little card. I’m planning on buying another pair of Chromas and Pentodes for my guitar bus. I may end up with a whole sidecar of them.

Super super nice

The Pentode is super nice. The distortion is super smooth and harmonic products decay very nicely and therefore avoid any odd harmonics transistor fuzz. There is a subtle 0.75 dB, very broad boost at around 12 kHz and a very tiny bass boost, even with the EQ disabled but the high end boost sounds nice. The only downside is that these are significantly noisier than other colour modules. I run these in M/S with the sides amplified in the box to fill up the headroom. In one example, I could make the sides 12 dB louder going out the D/A and then 12 dB quieter from the A/D. This moves the noise to the center where it's much less audible. Overall, a great module that may have made me addicted to tubes. While that's typically an expensive addiction, these modules are cheap.
