Keeping the Work Sharp

When just using paper, I was fed up with it. Now I am keeping it for rough angle grinding chisels and irons. CBN makes the difference. FWIW, I have two wheels on my Rikon grinder too.

Fantastic Wheel....

I was really surprised in the action this wheels gives....it is a little coarser than I thought, but seems to be wearing.....the heat it puts into the drill bits I sharpen with coolant....just your 'slicker' product and heat buildup is non existent....they cut very fast and do not load up like aluminum oxide.....I highly recommend these to anyone sharpening drill bits.....even carbide........thanks so much ...Paul in Winter Park, Florida

80/180 Disc to flatten Plane Irons

I have a Worksharp 3000 being used primarily to flatten the back of plane irons. This 80/180 CBN disc has sped up the process of flattening old vintage irons, getting the initial hills & valleys ground away so that the flat surface can be gradually polished with finer grits of sandpaper. However, I have learned that swarf from the grinding process gets embedded on the CBN disc and must be cleaned off before each use, otherwise the disc does not perform as well. To do this, I squirt on some PB Blaster and then give the surface a gentle scrubbing with a fine wire brush and then blot away the PB Blaster with a paper towel. This cleaning seems to bring the surface back to almost new. Now that I've discovered that this cleaning process restores the disc surface, I'll give this item 5 stars as it's a superior replacement for the 80-grit sandpaper that wears out quickly in this process.
