This is the original pure purple tea from the Nandi Hills region of Kenya. Its purple color is a result of an antioxidant known as anthocyanin, which is also found in blueberries and red cabbage. Purple tea is processed lightly like green tea. Sweet and mildly fruity, our Purple Tea is imported fresh from the farm.

Purple Tea

This is the pure leaf, unflavored version. I haven’t had other purple leaf tea to compare this to, but I was excited to try this type. Unfortunately, there was hardly any flavor at all for me. Maybe it has more flavor brewing gongfu style, but I did western style as directed on the bag, and it tasted very bland to me. I tried adding a bit of sugar, but that still didn’t bring out any clear notes. I appreciated that it wasn’t bitter, funky, or vegetal, but it didn’t taste like anything but similar to weak black tea to me.
