These aren't reliable. The last one died after 2 years (it was the first lot the new Insteon company put out, after taking over). This one has a very slight revision increment (.02 higher), so hopefully the reliability issues are fixed for good now. They are too expensive to be considered disposable. But, you don't really have any option if you want to use Universal Devices equipment with Insteon. When it works, it works great,

Replaced my old serial Modem

My 15+ year old serial modem appeared to be flaking out given the symptoms so I replaced it with a new USB modem. The swap out was easy and I have not had a single issue since. Moving from a serial to USB modem on the eisy was easy. 1) Backup eisy, 2) Power down eisy, 3) Connect new modem to eisy (disconnecting old modem is implied), 4) Plug new modem into wall outlet, 5) Power up eisy and restore modem. Never had a problem with the custom serial link on the old modem, but it's nice to have an off the shelf USB cable and interface.

These work great, I have used two now in about 10-11 years. I use mine with Indigo, and a Mac mini. Works great.
