Located in the Black Hills of northeast Wyoming, USA, Devils Tower is a prominent butte rising 867 feet from base to summit. It was the first United States national monument, established by Theodore Roosevelt in 1906. It was also made famous by the 1977 movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind, in which it is heavily featured.
