I could smell the madeira wine when I opened the packaging the bag came in. If the coffee beans were aged in a bourbon barrel, I would've passed on it; I'm not the biggest fan of bourbon barrel aging for my coffee or my beer.
I'm always interested in trying new flavors, and while this isn't flavored, I was curious to try this one. I enjoy a good port wine, and madeira is almost a port wine, so I hoped this coffee would take on some aspects of the wine.
I don't always pick up on some of the tasting notes that others can, but with this one, I thought it had a similar "mouth feel" to a good strong wine, and enjoyed it more than I thought!

I'm glad I ordered a bag of this coffee. I was surprised how sweet this coffee was from the first sip. I drink my coffee black so when my first cup reminded me of that dates and the dried figs I snack of from time to time, I was hooked. The description of this coffee was accurate. It's a great bag of coffee and I look forward to a cup or three every morning. What gigawatt is doing with coffee beans is amazing. Thank you for a great cup of coffee!

Great smell, opening and grinding it clearly has the bourbon smell. the taste is very smooth, not as bitter as dark but not as light and fruity as I ususally get. A perfect afternoon/night time coffee if that's you're thing.
