Under the Microscope

I love the kid friendly way this is set up and that its geared for kids. The wording is great even for special education students in high school. It keeps the unit manageable for them and includes activities that are doable even if the students need support to do them. Way better than a boring text book!

Our kids get so excited when new issues arrive. The magazine combines incredible design and illustrations with genuinely engaging content and thoughtful, high-quality curation. The history is broken down into bite-sized, digestible pieces and written in a tone that makes it easy for kids to understand without ever feeling watered down. What I love most is how much it sparks curiosity. Our kids are constantly calling us over to share a fun fact or excitedly saying, “Did you know…?” and then launching into some new piece of history they just learned. It’s wonderful to see them not only enjoying history, but actively wanting to learn more about it. Honest History has become something our family genuinely looks forward to receiving, and I highly recommend it to any parent looking for a fun, beautifully made, and educational way to get kids excited about history.

I purchased a subscription for my grandson when he was much younger. He's a reader so I thought it was a good fit. At that time, he wasn't that excited about history because he was more into science, so even though the issues were read, I cancelled the subscription. A few years later, he reread the sturdy (booklet) issues and loved it! When I asked him what he wanted for his birthday, he asked for more Honest History, so I had him select six issues with subject matters that he was interested in. At age twelve he really enjoys learning about history. His younger sister also enjoys Honest History but she's more interested in anything horses. I expect her interests to also expand as she gets older.
