Great patterns, but get the English edition instead.

I ordered the Japanese edition of this book for my Japanese MIL, as we couldn't find a physical copy locally in Japan. While I haven't knit any of the items yet, a quick scan suggests the patterns themselves are well-written. However, if you can read patterns written in English, I highly recommend buying the English version instead. The Japanese version feels like it was only partially translated, which makes it very difficult for monolingual Japanese speakers to follow. For example, the patterns still use English abbreviations like "BO 12 目, 最後までK... TW" instead of standard Japanese terminology. My MIL constantly has to check the glossary to decipher the instructions. Even worse, the layout makes the text hard to read. Some pages attempt to retain English font design elements, but the result looks messy in the Japanese context. As a graphic designer myself, it was painful to look at. Since this book is by a well-known Japanese designer, we expected the publisher would have put more thought into the localization of the Japanese edition. It’s a disappointment.
