I watched and read a lot of reviews on this bike before pulling the trigger, after a few hundred miles, hope this helps some people. First I’ll say there’s been a lot of discussion on the parts used, and people have reported quality issues. The Ike came with remedies to all these reviews I’ve seen, extra parts; paint, grease, bike tools, etc.
Tires and rims- they are great starting set I’d recommend to get setup tubeless asap- and probably one of the first upgrades I will still do are new rims. The rims come stock with factory tubeless tape already installed, and neither of my tires held sealant, properly and after resealing and taping I decided to take them to a shop. I would not trust the factory tape job. The rim tape that came with the bike I personally did not use or want to, but it’s nice they include free rolls. Tire choice has been great and won’t swap those out til I jump to 50mms. Some reviews state the back can’t take a 50mm but it absolutely can without a fender!
Frame: zero deformations, no paint chips no cosmetic issues at all. They’ve started shipping the bikes with a small thing of paint which I think I amazing based off reviews. I haven’t used the extra paint but in the future I’m super stoked I have matching paint. The steel frame is sick, flexible and looks like the perfect frame to build and upgrade around.
For being 5’11” maybe 6” with shoes the frame fits great and the handle bar width was spot on, I was on the fence of going for a ML but I think the L rides better than my smaller frame gravel, especially on big fast descents and long rides.
Rear Derailer: maybe the most controversial part:
Now to preface this bike NOW ships with the V2 LTWOO egr, meaning no battery in the tube with a wire running down, it’s built into the derailer and seems more water resistant than the V1 based off reviews. Parts people have complained about are burlier. The biggest reason I went with the superdame over the dame was purely the hydraulic brakes and the electronic shifting has been an amazing bonus.. I’ve banged this derailer pretty hard and now am riding in the wet, cold, and single track trails in Montana and have had zero issues at all, it only needs to be charged maybe every 800 miles but I usually charge it after rides and over the course of a 45 mile week I might lose maybe 4% overall, on hilly and steep terrain.
The app is easy to setup and finding a manual was by far the worst part about it, it doesn’t come with a manual or any kind of way to set it up- after a ride or two of calibrating in the app, I’ve had no issues, I’ll upgrade the rear cassette to a 12 at some point and keep using the EGR.
The brakes are awesome and on single track over hills steep road stops, I can stop easy wth 1 finger on top of the hoods.
I’ve seen some reviews on the crankset quality but found my bike didn’t even ship
with those cranks and have been great.
Overall I think this bike stock is going to be great for all kinds of riding. I usually do a mix of road and gravel and a few miles of single track and there’s been zero quality issues or things that concern me.
Overtime I’ll upgrade all the parts I can but the frame and fork will never change!
