It needs chalk all the time, you cannot use without it, so it can be a little annoying if you don't want to put on chalk all the time.

The grips are very nice. I like how they are shaped so that I can wrap my thumb around the bar without any bunching up or misaligning. They fit well also. Customer service has been great and resolved an issue that I had without any problems.
