MODE Convertible Bag 14L

fits a 16" macbook pro tightly, well designed

My main concern purchasing the MODE 14L was whether it would fit and protect a 16" macbook pro. I am happy to report that it fits and is protected. The top corners of the laptop bump up against the top corners of the bag, and the fit is tight with no vertical movement of the laptop possible. I consider this a good thing, because the top back corners of the bag are well padded with a foam layer between the fabrics, so even if the backpack falls upside-down onto concrete, the laptop corners ought to be somewhat adequately protected. Top protection is certainly not as good as bottom, where there is a roughly 1" tall false bottom, but I am content with it, considering the slim size of the backpack. Otherwise, this is a well-designed bag with ample consideration to detail. For example, each of the 3 compartments have a different difficulty of opening, with the main compartment being easiest. This preserves the ease of access to your large items, while providing some security from pickpockets if you put sensitive items in the bottom outside compartment, or in the zippered mesh pocket in the top accessory compartment.

Love the material of the bag and the color. Color looks a little different dark than online. Super light zippers are not super smooth but feels like carrying air. Also a little flimsy but I value the lightness of it more. Good with the pencil bag to clip in side.
