This is a smaller sized 1000/3000 combo stone, designed for chefs who need a portable sharpening option. Though it's not a splash-and-go stone, it does soak rather quickly and provides good cutting speed and tactile feedback. Though the finishing stone is only 3000 grit, it leaves a grea

Bought my sharpening stone at Japanese Knife Imports and Josh took a lot of time to teach me the basics of knife sharpening. I also bought a chef knife from the store, which I love. I was able to get my formerly dull kitchen knives sharpened and am very happy. wonderful experience buying from the store and Josh was great with guiding me through the knife and sharpening stone buying process

Working for me.
I recently bought this inexpensive stone, opening up the sharpening can of worms. I did manage to dish the stone fairly quickly, but I believe this to be a result of my heavy hand more than fault of the stone. For this price I am quite content to flatten the stone periodically while I try to learn how to sharpen an edge. Soaks quickly and has a nice feel, at least to this novice. Great service at JKI, will be going back once my skills warrant an upgrade from my beater knife.

Touch Up Combo Stone
This stone is exactly what I expected and wanted from a small combo stone. Good for touch ups and on the go sharpening. Obviously it cannot be compared to the Gesshin single grit stones but its purpose isn’t to be a one stop sharpening solution. It works up mud fairly quickly and cuts reasonably fast. I found the 1000 side a little soft but it does its job credibly. If you need a portable stone to do touch ups this is a great option. If you want a starter sharpening setup I suggest getting the three stone Gesshin set. I think its the best set on the market currently. As always the service from Japanese Knife Imports is the best in the business.
