Water does not need to be at hot for this. It's really exceptional, though, in terms of flavor and texture. Instant coffee has come a really long way these past couple of years. I bought this for backcountry trips but this morning had a little extra water in the kettle and decided to just make a quick cup - this isn't just delicious when you're deprived of good coffee out in the woods someplace. This is also delicious at home. Full-bodied, flavorful, and extremely quick to make. Really happy with these.
